The joys of vintage vehicles on modern roads…
Fixed the reason the #cyclaid was running rough on Wednesday (water in the carburettor), remade the end of the decompressor cable and changed the batteries in the lights, then found a crack in the rear wheel rim that wasn’t there on Wednesday morning.
I suspect the significant length of Upham Street with no tarmac on top of the 1930’s Macadamised surface may have had a lot to do with it🙁.

I found this rear light over ten years ago, along the way I lost the rubber seal, then found it again. Only after discounting it on the two Power Pak builds, as they didn`t look quite right.
So I had the idea to try it on the Velosolex motored JGG, and I think it looks perfect. With a motorcycle sized number plate underneath it will look like it`s always been there 😎❤️

The Velosolex 1010 is good looking old school motor, with or without the fuel tank.
I don`t think it would be possible to mount a tank anyway else because of the fuel line/pump set up. Although I have seen the `racing` Velosolex crew mount the tank a little way out from its original position. Maybe to increase air flow and cooling?

Faulty condenser found in the magneto, acting more like a resistor than a capacitor! Temporarily replaced with a modern axial lead device if the same value, but it needs mounting in a can with flexible leads to stop vibration breaking the wires off it!

A little run around the top of Gareloch this morning. Not too far, as there’s a lot of big hills, and I still don’t quite trust the little machine. Finish off with coffee at “The Perch”.
The last picture shows the “selfie” setup, tripod with iPhone mount, and a cheap Bluetooth remote shutter control for the iPhone.

A little run around the top of Gareloch this morning. Not too far, as there’s a lot of big hills, and I still don’t quite trust the little machine. Finish off with coffee at “The Perch”.
The last picture shows the “selfie” setup, tripod with iPhone mount, and a cheap Bluetooth remote shutter control for the iPhone.

Sometimes you have to take advantage of a situation…
On a recent trip to Scotland, I realised that I was going to be very close to the site of the British Salmson Cyclaid factory in Larkhall, near Glasgow, so the Cyclaid went in the van and visited its birthplace.
I haven’t been able to determine exactly which building was the Cyclaid factory (anybody have a business directory for Lanarkshire for the late 1950’s?) so these pictures are from the entrance to the Larkhall industrial estate.
As usual, the unusual little machine generated lots of interest from current workers on the site, and a few demonstration laps of the estate were ridden!
Under the pebble dash, modern signs and exterior paint, there are some nice examples of mud-century industrial architecture, with curved windows, fancy brick entrance doorways and other nice touches, it must have been quite the stylish place to work when it first opened.

Met up with a friend on his 1947 New Hudson Autocycle. There was another Autocycle arrived just as we were leaving, but didn’t see what it was (looked French).

Whilst it was running, it actually achieved the published speed figures, not bad for a sixty five year old vehicle.

Trying out a friends James Autocycle. It’s fair to say I wasn’t doing very well, as the control layout is completely different to anything that I’ve ridden before ( front brake on the left, rear brake on the right, opposite to a push bike, latching clutch lever and decompressor lever on the left, lever operated throttle on the right, and choke somewhere near my left foot!).
It’s good fun, and has the great advantage over my cyclemotor of having a clutch!

Or is there meant to be a connecting spring or such like? I`ve checked the EV parts list but cannot see anything, what occurring VS fans?

It`s just not happening with the wipac series 90 😒
There`s a spark, but so Intermittent that`s it can only be one of two things, the ignition coil, or the condenser. Either way, 60 year old coils or condenses are costly to replace or rewind. So, as the Standard Power Pak has done so well with a Minimag electronic ignition, which has been faultless for two years, I`m going to do the same with the Synchromatic. But I`m going to fit it myself 😮
